Currents

Of all the senior year high school memories I have held onto, having a hand in creating our yearbook is near the top. I recognize this could be because it allowed for really easy, lazy afternoons with friends in a big room with little supervision, but nevertheless I loved being a part of the team that produced such a cool keepsake.

When the opportunity to be Content Editor of Currents, my club's magazine, came about I signed on without thinking twice. Ive edited a yearbook, of course I can do this! Unsurprisingly, the two experiences were completely different. Now that the final product is complete and in the hands of our club, I recognize that its better I didn't know what I was getting myself into.

The process was fun, interesting, and agonizing simultaneously. As soon as I signed on I announced the theme and sent a request for submissions. I was convinced this edition would be the biggest and best Currents the AWC had ever seen. Oh, how ambition has a funny way of acting as a double-edged sword. My fellow club members answered my requests and submitted an unusually high number of articles, many of which were tied to my proposed 'favorite European destination' theme. Each submission meant a more interesting final product...that wouldn't be complete without reading, re-reading, and re-re-reading the latest addition to my edition. Regardless, as each article came in I grew more and more excited at the prospect of delivering a magazine oozing with a display of collective creativity.

Now, several weeks after our final proofreading session our spring Currents is alive and kicking. The word on the street is that the members are satisfied. With that, I can be, too.
